2 MWh battery: large-scale energy storage in a single container

A 2 MWh battery container makes it possible to store large amounts of electricity and use it at a later time. For companies that face high energy demand, peak loads, or grid congestion, energy storage can play an important role.

In practice, this means, among other things:

  • Storage of large amounts of energy
  • Greater control over energy consumption
  • More efficient use of renewable energy
  • Less reliance on grid capacity

Find the 2 MWh battery that fits your energy project

A 2 MWh battery isn’t a standard off-the-shelf product. The right configuration depends on your consumption profile, your on-site generation, and the capacity available at your grid connection. A manufacturing facility with heavy morning peaks requires a different solution than a solar farm with excess power around noon, or a charging station where multiple fast chargers draw power simultaneously.

That’s why every project starts with the question of what problem the battery is meant to solve. Does it need to smooth out peaks so you stay within your contracted capacity? Does it need to store your own generated power until it’s needed? Or does it need to provide additional power at a location where the grid operator has no more capacity available?

The answer determines how much storage capacity and power you need, and whether a single container will suffice. The BOLT-20 provides up to 2,250 kWh and 1,000 kW in a single 20-foot container, including inverters. If your demand grows, you can expand by adding additional containers without replacing the existing system.

In the simulation report, we run through your situation based on your own consumption data. This way, you’ll know in advance which system is right for your location before you make an investment decision.

2 MWh battery container

For locations that require a lot of energy and power, a 2 MWh battery container provides the capacity to handle heavy peaks and store large amounts of generated power. The BOLT-20 delivers up to 2,250 kWh and 1,000 kW, enough to operate at full power for over two hours. It is used at industrial sites, solar and wind farms, and businesses with highly fluctuating energy demand.

Since the inverters are already built into the container, you can install the system without a separate inverter room and connect it to your existing system.

Discover the Container

The benefits of this:

  • Up to 2,250 kWh of storage in a single container
  • Up to 1,000 kW of power for heavy peaks
  • Built-in inverters, easy to connect to your existing system

Typical applications:

  • Industrial sites with high peak loads
  • Solar and Wind Farms
  • Loading areas and logistics hubs

Scalable battery storage

Many energy projects expand in phases: first a single production line or solar field, then more. That’s why the BOLT-20 has a modular design. If you need more storage, you can connect additional containers to the existing system without replacing the first container.

Discover the Container

Advantages of this:

  • Flexible scaling of storage capacity
  • Adaptable to changing energy demand
  • Suitable for long-term energy projects

RELIABLE ENERGY SUPPLY

How does a 2 MWh battery container work?

A battery container consists of a series of battery modules that together form a single storage system. When energy is available—from solar panels, wind turbines, or the grid—the battery charges. If your location draws more power than the connection can supply, the battery discharges.

The difference between MWh and MW is important here. MWh is the amount of energy the battery stores, while MW is the power it delivers at any given moment. A BOLT-20 with 2 MWh and 1,000 kW can therefore deliver full power for two hours, or 500 kW for four hours.

An energy management system automatically controls charging and discharging based on your consumption, your generation, and the available capacity on your connection.

Benefits of a 2 MWh battery

MORE CONTROL OVER ENERGY CONSUMPTION

You decide when to store energy and when to use it, rather than being dependent on the time of delivery.

This means:

  • consumption that you plan in advance
  • less exposure to peak prices

REDUCTION OF PEAK LOAD

Peaks in your electricity consumption determine your contracted capacity, and thus the capacity rate you pay. The battery provides additional power during peak periods, helping to smooth out your electricity draw from the grid.

This means:

  • a lower contracted capacity
  • Less strain on your power connection

GET MORE OUT OF YOUR OWN GENERATION

You can store excess solar or wind power until there is demand for it, rather than feeding it back into the grid at a low rate.

This means:

  • Less energy fed back into the grid when prices are low or negative
  • Increase the amount of your own generated electricity that you consume

SCALABLE WITH YOUR PROJECT

If your energy demand increases, you can expand by adding additional BOLT-20 containers alongside the existing ones.

This means:

  • room for future growth
  • suitable for projects that are carried out in phases

A 2 mWh Battery in 4 Smart Steps

1

Analysis & Insights

  • A clear picture of your opportunities and possibilities.

We analyze your consumption profile, your energy generation, and the capacity available on your grid connection. This allows us to identify where the peaks occur and what role a 2 MWh battery can play in managing them.

  • A clear picture of your situation.
2

Simulation & Consulting

In the simulation report, we calculate how a 2 MWh battery would perform at your location: how many peaks it would absorb and how much of your own generated energy you would use yourself. The report is based on your own consumption data.

  • Well-reasoned advice tailored to your situation.
3

Installation & Connection

We will install the BOLT-20 and connect it to your existing system. Since the inverters are already housed in the container, no separate inverter room is needed.

  • Ready for use shortly after installation.
4

Monitoring & Management

Our software lets you see at a glance how much energy you’re storing, using, or selling. This way, you’re always in control and have full visibility.

  • Take control of your energy and maximize your yield.
